Job Summary 

The Director of Communications Planning is the comms planning lead for non-shopper marketing accounts at Blue Chip and is the connective tissue between the client’s business strategy, the brand strategies, the media strategy, the activation plans and the creative work. The DCP will take great ideas and amplify their marketplace impact by ensuring they are leveraged at the right time and in the right place using communication vehicles that demonstrate and empathetic understanding of the lives and decision-making behaviors of the target audience. Identifying communication barriers and communication tasks that address them, the DCP will articulate the “when,” “where” and “how” of the strategy. To be successful in this role, the DCP must have broad and deep experience planning media in all channels. This role reports directly to the VP Insights and Innovation.

  • Demonstrate the mission, vision, values, and culture principles of Blue Chip Worldwide. 
  • Develop the Communications Planning practice leveraging best practices as well as internal expertise
  • Establish ways of working that elevate the role of context/creativity in activation/media planning and inspires the next level media ideas and partnerships
  • Develop, institute and evangelize a simple and effective communications planning framework 
  • Provide strategic leadership on best practices for communication strategy, media mix methodology, media plan frameworks
  • Passion and ability to translate ideas into action (ensures all activation/media recommendations are on strategy and work seamlessly together)
  • Strong ability to empathize and understand target audiences
  • Ability to problem solve at all stages of consumer journey, from awareness through purchase
  • Ability to drive the comms strategy forward by being the main point of internal contact for activation planning
  • You’ll need to be familiar with all types of media, how they work, why one is better than another, and how to collaborate with partners and our internal teams to bring ideas to life
  • Articulate views on how omni-channel campaigns can transform our clients’ business; illustrate how the ecosystem works
  • Uncover actionable insights from various data sources and make informed content and channel recommendations
  • Ensure cross-collaboration of the comms planning function throughout the agency to develop best-in-class activations and creative work that both excites the client and helps meet campaign objectives
  • Works closely with the Intelligence, Insights and Innovation, Digital Experience, Media and PR teams to ensure all activations are cohesive, on budget, on strategy, measurable and effective
  • Assist in business development opportunities as needed

  • Demonstrate current and relevant expert knowledge of comms planning and media trends and best practices through one-on-one meetings, conferences, and trade publication
  • Ability to educate and influence stakeholders on above trends and best practices
  • Forward thinking and plugged into the industry as well as pop culture

  • Share Blue Chip knowledge and success stories actively across the agency
  • Train, mentor, and develop cross-department leaders on the role of comms planning
  • Comply with all corporate and departmental standard operating procedures 
  • Ensure all activities and operations are performed in compliance with federal regulations
  • Responsible for maintaining current and accurate weekly time tracking, per the Agency’s time tracking policy
  • Must travel occasionally overnight and on weekends

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year college or university required
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in the communications planning discipline
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ experience planning and buying all types of media (digital, broadcast, in-store)
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically while exercising creative muscles
  • Experience working with agency creative departments, agency planning departments, agency media departments
